About

A former high school cross-country and track runner, I stopped running in 2009 due to a ganglion cyst in my foot. While I had surgery to remove it in October ’09, it grew back and forced me to find an activity with far less impact. I love pushing my body to its limit and I hold myself to a high standard (a holdover from my years in cross-country), so it wasn’t until I began crossfit that I felt like I was finally getting the type of workout I could be proud of.

Crossfit forces me to constantly assess my progress and see how much faster/further/heavier I can go. I completely re-evaluated and took ownership of my diet. Food has become fuel. I’ve become incredibly in-tune with my body and how it functions at its highest level. I can say with complete confidence that Crossfit has changed my life and I’m grateful that I found it this early in my life. Oh yeah, and I’m completely obsessed with lifting heavy-ass weight.

Brooke, very impressed with your total commitment to the crossfit journey… I think you will be coaching me one day soon. The whole9 would be the max I could do the whole 30 would literally be impossible (WINE) that is where it all goes wrong. I will be reading your blog now.

Those are some nice numbers! Can you do a muscle-up? I’ve never seen a woman do a muscle-up on a bar, but I believe it’s possible. Maybe you’ll be the first?

I haven’t done a muscle up yet, but hopefully by the end of the year. Bar muscle-ups were a movement for the advanced women’s division at a recent competition I competed in, so I won’t be the first unfortunately ;)

I didn’t say a woman had never done one. I said I’ve never SEEN it. So you can still be the first one that I’ve ever seen! Just curious, how many women at that competition were actually able to perform a proper bar muscle-up?
